A propane-powered forklift caught fire at a commercial warehouse on Aurora’s northeast side on Monday, causing damage to the building but no injuries, according to a news release from the Aurora Fire Department.
At around 4:45 p.m., the fire department responded to a structure fire at a commercial warehouse on the 800 block of Enterprise Street, according to Tuesday’s news release.
The fire department learned that a propane-powered forklift at the warehouse had caught fire and caused the tank attached to the forklift to explode, the release said. The explosion had blown out the overhead door in the back of the building and dislodged several windows and a door at the front, officials said.
Firefighters found that the fire spread to some warehouse stock, according to the release. The building’s sprinkler system had been activated before they arrived.
All 11 people who were inside the building were evacuated before firefighters arrived, with no injuries reported, the release said. The fire department checked to ensure no one was left inside, and were able to get the fire under control within 24 minutes of the initial call, according to officials.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, the release stated.
