Hammond man charged after busting pool cue over man’s head in bowling alley

A Hammond man was charged Saturday after beating a man over the head with a pool cue, jealous that the man was talking to his girlfriend at the bowling alley, charges allege.

The other man was left with life-threatening injuries.

Harold Raschke, 61, was charged Saturday with aggravated battery and battery resulting in serious bodily injury.

He is in custody, held on a $5,000 cash bond.

Lowell Police responded just before 10 p.m. Friday to Country Lanes, 1900 Lucas Parkway.

“I did it,” Raschke told police.

He admitted he had been drinking and was arguing with his girlfriend that night.

Witnesses said the men were in a screaming match in the middle of the bowling alley, before Raschke went to the pool table to grab the cue.

Raschke went back to the lanes to break the pool cue over the back of the victim’s head, then tackled him from behind, the affidavit alleges. The victim passed out from the blow.

The incident was caught on video.

The victim was transported to the hospital in “critical care” and “intubated due to life-threatening injuries.” records state.
