Two Maine South High School sophomores were selected to perform in a special choir during a choral organization’s national conference in Dallas in recent weeks.
Students Emma Erickson and Andriana Margaris were chosen to be part of the Honor Choir at the 2025 American Choral Directors Association’s national conference March 22 in Dallas, according to a news release from Maine Township High School District 207.
More than 5,000 students in middle and high schools nationwide had auditioned to perform with the ACDA National Honor Choir at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center, which the release explains is considered an esteemed concert hall well-known for its “exceptional” acoustics.
“Selection for the ACDA National Honor Choir is truly humbling and reflects the artistry, skill and dedication of the students who make up the choir given the thousands of talented vocalists from around the country who audition,” Maine South Director of Choirs Matthew Hanes stated in the release.
According to the school district’s release, ACDA is a nationally recognized nonprofit membership organization that looks to inspire excellence and nurture lifelong involvement in choral music for everyone through education, performance, composition and advocacy.
The national conference in Dallas gathers choral music professionals — from legends in the field to emerging professionals. It attracts vocalists, educators, conductors, composers and choral industry partners from around the world, the release explains.
Erickson and Margaris were among the approximately 300 middle and high school students selected from about 5,000 who auditioned around the country, the release explained. Those selected were done so through a competitive blind nationwide-audition to join the Honor Choir, directed by Lynnel Joy Jenkins, the artistic director of Westrick Music Academy.
