Man shot during large Elgin gathering that brought out SWAT team

For the second time in less than a week, a person has been shot in Elgin.

The most recent incident occurred Sunday morning and is tied to a large gathering in the 100 block of South Commonwealth that resulted the Elgin Police Department’s SWAT team was called out, a police department Facebook post said.

Officers found the male victim about 8:55 a.m. in the 800 block of South Carr Street. He was taken to an area hospital for treatment, the post said.

Police did not disclose why they believe the shooting was related to the gathering, what provoked the gathering or if anyone was taken into custody in connection with it or the shooting.

Detectives from the Major Investigations Division are handling the case.

The earlier shooting occurred about 7:20 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, in the 1100 block of Dundee Avenue, a police Facebook post said.

Two men were fighting as a result of a traffic dispute and one of them fired a gun. The victim was treated for minor injuries at an area hospital, the post said.

Carlos Saez, 58, of the 100 block of Dickens Trail, was arrested and has subsequently been charged by the Kane County state’s attorney’s office with aggravated battery-deadly weapon, aggravated battery-public way and reckless discharge of a fire arm, all felonies, the post said.

Saez has been released from the Kane County jail pending his next court appearance.
