Curtis Sadler of Crystal Lake kneels and places flags around his father’s grave at Bluff City Cemetery in Elgin on Memorial Day on May 26, 2025. Sadler’s father, Carl William Sadler, was a World War II veteran who died in 1979. Every year since, Curtis visits the grave every Memorial Day to place flags around his grave. “I made it my journey to come here every year and throw the flags on here. I do it every year.
