St. Charles is continuing its search for a new police chief, according to a news release from the city, while Deputy Chief Eric Majewski continues as the acting chief in the interim.
City officials said they made an offer to a candidate, but the individual accepted a police chief job in another community. The city is continuing recruiting for the role, the release stated.
St. Charles Mayor Clint Hull said in the release that it was “essential” the city takes “the necessary time to make the right choice,” noting that officials are “confident the right candidate will emerge.”
As part of the national search for a candidate, Hull, members of the City Council and some city staff members are participating in the review process, per the release.
The position was left vacant in March, when former Police Chief James Keegan stepped down from the role, according to past reporting. Per the city, he had been on a leave of absence since November.
Keegan became police chief in 2014, coming to St. Charles from the police department in Streamwood, according to the city officials.
Majewski, who stepped in as interim chief when Keegan resigned, will continue as acting police chief while the search for a permanent replacement goes on, officials said.
