At the encouragement of several community groups, the Elgin City Council issued an anti-racism proclamation Wednesday night. The proclamation calls on the city to recognize its own biases and take action to stand against discrimination and hatred and for all residents to be treated with dignity and respect. It was followed by a proclamation honoring Elgin police for National Police Week.
