The subject of Mary Lincoln’s mental health has long been the subject of public debate. Now, 150 years after her commitment, a newly rediscovered collection of correspondence between the widow of the former president who had been assassinated and her friends and family shed new light on the nature of her illness as well as the nature of her relationships with the few friends and family she had left by that time.
