Good afternoon, Chicago.
Donald Trump shattered the “Blue Wall” of states that Democrats had counted upon to keep the White House as he was elected the 47th president of the United States.
Illinois remained an exception as the former Republican president defeated Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Michigan, according to The Associated Press. The wins meant Trump retook all three states and that he had amassed more than the 270 Electoral College votes needed to win the White House.
Meanwhile, Kamala Harris has called Trump today to concede the election and congratulate him on his victory, according to a senior adviser to the vice president. She will deliver a concession speech at 3 p.m. CST, her office announced.
