Afternoon Briefing: Thornton Township trustees cite safety concerns in skipping meeting

Good afternoon, Chicago.

Mayor Brandon Johnson is dropping his plan to veto a City Council ordinance aimed at continuing the ShotSpotter gunshot detection system he ended last month.

Johnson promised to veto the ordinance passed in a 33-to14 vote, but failed to make the move before a Wednesday morning deadline.

Thornton Township trustees cite safety concerns in skipping meeting, Trustee Jerry Jones resigns

An already divided Thornton Township Board was revealed to be further fractured last night, with one trustee resigning ahead of a meeting and two others absent due to concerns for their safety. Read more here.

Following Hurricane Helene, Deerfield-based Baxter doesn’t expect to return to normal supply of IV fluids until end of 2024

The hurricane last month led to flooding at Baxter’s North Cove plant, in Marion, N.C., forcing the company to temporarily shut down the facility. Read more here.
