Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese will play for Rose Basketball Club in the inaugural season of Unrivaled, a 3-on-3 league founded by WNBA stars Napheesa Collier and Breanna Stewart.
Reese will join former Sky players Kahleah Copper and Azurá Stevens on the Rose roster along with guards Chelsea Gray, Brittney Sykes and Lexie Hull. The Rose coach is Nola Henry, previously a player development coach for the Los Angeles Sparks and assistant basketball operations manager for the Connecticut Sun.
Former Sky coach Teresa Weatherspoon will coach the Vinyl roster, which features Arike Ogunbowale, Rhyne Howard, Aliyah Boston, Jordin Canada, Rae Burrell and Dearica Hamby. The other four teams will be coached by Phil Handy (Mist), DJ Sackmann (Lunar Owls), Adam Harrington (Phantom) and Andrew Wade (Laces).
Two of the 36 players have yet to be announced. Unrivaled continues to court Indiana Fever superstar Caitlin Clark as a potential addition.
Unrivaled President Alex Bazzell previously detailed that the coaches were selected with a focus on player development. Coaching staffs will develop individualized workout and practice plans to align with athletes’ offseason objectives, providing a hybrid environment for players to focus on development without the rigors of playing in an overseas league.
This is crucial for Reese, who entered the offseason with a long list of development goals: finishing better through contact, improving her footwork around the rim and extending her shot profile beyond the restricted area.
Each Unrivaled team will play 14 regular-season games over eight weeks, beginning Jan. 17. The league will not follow traditional FIBA 3-on-3 rules, allowing for extended playing time. The entire season will be broadcast on TNT and TruTV.
