A fire broke out late Friday morning in a first floor apartment in a building at 900 block of South 8th Avenue in La Grange.
La Grange Firefighters responded to the call at 11:30 a.m. and quickly extinguishing the blaze with no injuries to residents or firefighters reported. But eyewitnesses to the fire said two house cats may have perished.
The cause of the fire remained undermined Friday afternoon, and damage was contained to the one apartment involved, officials said. No estimate of damages was yet available.
Fire Chief Daniel Reda was at the scene.
“It was one room in one apartment,” he said. “The guys (firefighters) did a good job and put it out fairly quickly and there was help from neighboring towns.”
Reda said that departments assisting La Grange included those from La Grange Park, Western Springs, Hinsdale, Pleasant View, Brookfield and Forest View.
