Application deadline extended for St. Patrick’s Parade in St. Charles

The application deadline has been extended for those who want to take part in the St. Patrick’s Parade set for 2 p.m. Saturday, March 9, on Main Street in downtown St. Charles.

The deadline to submit an application to be part of the parade is now Feb. 19, organizers said.

The St. Charles Business Alliance is encouraging local businesses, community groups and non-profits to take part in the parade.

Those interested in participating in the parade should complete the entry form at www.stcstpatricksparade.com. Entries that are planning on having more than 20 walkers will need to contact the St. Charles Business Alliance at 630-443-3967 or info@stcalliance.org for special permission and guidelines.

The St. Charles Business Alliance is also in need of community volunteers for the event and is accepting volunteer applications up to the date of the parade. Parade pacers, marshals and banner carriers are needed. The application for volunteering can be found at www.stcstpatricksparade.com/volunteer.

Habitat restoration event set in Sugar Grove

A habitat restoration work day will be held at Bliss Woods Forest Preserve in Sugar Grove from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Feb. 24.

Cutting and stacking invasive brush will be the main tasks, organizers said. Tools will be provided but participants can bring their own as well.

Participants will meet in the main parking lot off of Bliss Road in Sugar Grove.

Camp programs at Naper Settlement open for registration

Registration has opened for summer camps at Naper Settlement in Naperville.

Camps run from June until August and are primarily geared for children in first through sixth grades.

Camp hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with early drop off available at 8 a.m. for no additional fee. Options include programs geared towards sports, history, coding, animals, forensics, geology, architecture and more.

Children also can learn a little bit about everything and participate in crafts and games while exploring the settlement’s historic houses and exhibits.

A special sewing camp for crafting and design will be offered for students in middle school and high school.

Most camps range from $200 to $250, with the sewing camp costing $450. Discounts are available for settlement members.

The settlement also is seeking summer camp counselors 18 years old and older to implement the curriculum, conduct educational programs and interact with campers. Interested counselors may apply at www.napersettlement.org.

Concert planned in St. Charles

The St. Charles Public Library’s Sunday Concert Series continues at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 18, with a performance by Chicago-based ZAZZ at the library.

The concert will feature songs performed by Tony Bennett from his early days to his collaboration with Lady Gaga, library officials said.

ZAZZ features Deb Zelman, clarinet and vocals; Gail Sonkin, piano and arranger; and Julian Webb, bass.

The public is welcome, and the concert is free to attend, officials said.
