Kane County is now accepting applications for the position of County Board member for District 7, which is in Aurora, officials announced on Tuesday.
The seat was previously held by Monica Silva, who recently resigned from the board after she was chosen to be the next Kane County coroner by voters in November’s general election.
Under state law, a vacancy on the Kane County Board must be filled by appointment of the County Board chair with the consent of the board, according to a news release from Kane County. The person appointed is required to be a member of the same political party as the person the appointee succeeds, officials said in the release.
The person appointed will serve the remainder of the term, which in this case expires in December 2026, the release stated.
All Kane County Board members also serve as members of the Kane County Forest Preserve District Commission.
To be eligible for appointment, candidates must be a member of the Democratic Party, be a registered voter, live within District 7 and be at least 18 year old, according to the news release.
Candidates must also have been a resident of Kane County for at least one year, county officials said.
Interested candidates should submit a cover letter and resume by Dec. 17, the release stated. These can be submitted in person or by mail at the Kane County Board Office, 719 S. Batavia Ave. in Geneva, or by email to tallitschjane@co.kane.il.us.
