In April, Lake Zurich residents will go to the polls to elect new town leaders and new school board members.
The town board will mostly remain unchanged as most on the ballot are incumbents without challengers. One candidate is new to the board and is running unopposed.
Voters in the village election will pick three Lake Zurich village trustees, the president or mayor, and the town clerk and voters will get to pick new school board representation. For town leadership, incumbent Mayor Tom Poynton is running without opposition while trustees Greg Weider, and Jake Marx seek to return to their seats and newcomer Sujatha Bharadawaj are seeking election to the board. Clerk Kathleen Johnson is seeking another term, unopposed.
Marx is running in his first election as a trustee. He was appointed to the position in 2024 after longtime trustee Dan Bobrowski moved from the area and left the board. Trustee Mary Beth Euker is not running for re-election.
Three seats must be filled on the open village trustee board, so all of the three candidates are assured victory, as is everyone else on the ballot for village office. According to the county’s election website, all candidates are running under the party Lake Zurich Together, formerly Lake Zurich Forward and before that, Lake Zurich Proud.
On the Lake Zurich School District School District 95 school board, three incumbents seek to keep their seats while one, Mark Haave, is not running. He was appointed to fill a vacancy in 2024. This election, unlike the village ballot, sees a small handful of challengers.
Incumbents Vice President Eileen Maloney, Secretary Lisa Warren, and Peter Etienne are running to keep their seats, and in addition, Sally Kustor, Dana Lee Miroballi, Alicia Timm, and Frederic Hutchinson to win a seat. Timm has served on the Ela Area Public Library Board.
The positions are at-large.
All candidates in both elections will fill a four-year term. The election will be held on April 1.
