Arlington Heights man accused of injuring cop while driving under the influence, Chicago police say

Authorities accused an Arlington Heights man of hitting and injuring a Chicago Police officer while driving under the influence Sunday on the West side, according to a news release.

Jose Ruiz-Crespin, 22, faces felony charges of attempted second-degree murder and aggravated driving under the influence, police said. Ruiz-Crespin also faces five misdemeanor counts of driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol and a sixth count of driving an uninsured vehicle.

Ruiz-Crespin was allegedly driving recklessly when he hit an officer in the 100 block of North Lamon Avenue in the Austin neighborhood, police said. Officers arrested him just after midnight Sunday, according to the news release.

Ruiz-Crespin is set to appear in court Tuesday at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse.
