A pedestrian was killed Wednesday night when he was hit by a car as he crossed Illinois Route 12 near Wauconda, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office said.
The victim is a 39-year-old Arlington Heights resident, authorities said. His identity has not yet been released.
The man was walking across the intersection of Route 12 and Old Rand Road at around 9 p.m. when he was struck by a Toyota Camry that was headed north on Route 12, police said.
The Camry driver, a 68-year-old McHenry man, told police that he did not see the pedestrian. The driver was not injured.
Police said a deputy performed CPR and was able to resuscitate the victim, who was not responsive when authorities arrived. However, the man later died at an area hospital.
The accident remains under investigation.
