Armed person attempts to rob restaurant overnight in Uptown neighborhood

A 30-year-old man who was eating inside a restaurant was approached by an armed robbery who also tried to take money from a cash register but failed overnight in the Uptown neighborhood, Chicago police said.

Shortly after 12:15 a.m. Wednesday, a man was eating inside a restaurant in the 1400 block of West Montrose Avenue when he was approached by an armed robber who demanded his property, police said. The victim complied and the robber proceeded to walk over to a cash register and as the robber attempted to remove cash the restaurant employees ran out of the front door, police said.

The robber was unsuccessful in hie attempt to take cash from the register and fled the scene.

No one was injured during the robbery, and detectives are investigating.
