While losing 4-3 in Washington on Thursday to fall below .500, news arrived that the Cubs plan to call up first baseman Matt Mervis from Triple A Iowa. Mervis, who would be making his major league debut, is expected to join the team Friday for the series opener against Miami at Wrigley Field.
