The Aurora City Council this week appointed a new chief information security officer for the city.
The new person will be responsible for “planning, coordinating, implementing, conducting research and maintaining information and cyber security policies” for the city, according to the job description.
Aldermen unanimously approved Mark Taghap for the new job.
According to his resume, Taghap has a “total of 23 years experience in the information technology field within manufacturing, civil engineering, construction inspection, environmental consulting, industrial hygiene, surveying, telecommunications, supply chain and public service industry.”
“I’ve led, organized and performed 14 relocations and new building acquisitions within the past eight years, and all were successful without any down time,” Taghap said in his resume. “(I’ve) established work relationships with hundreds of vendors, contractors and consultants throughout my years in IT.”
He was most recently the information technology manager for Tangent Technologies, and was information technology director for Environmental Design International, Inc.
He has also done IT work for Robin Subaru Inc., the Naperville Public Libraries, Tellabs Operations Inc., and Cross Communications.
Taghap has a bachelor’s degree in business management from Northern Illinois University, and did postgraduate work in cyber security at the University of Texas, the University of Michigan and the College of DuPage.
