Aurora area voters have say in Congressional, General Assembly races

Races for U.S. Congress and the General Assembly in Springfield were among the contests Fox Valley residents voted on Tuesday during the primary election.

In U.S. House District 11, there were contested primaries on both the Republican and Democratic sides.

For the Democrats, incumbent U.S. Rep. Bill Foster of Naperville declared victory over challenger Qasim Rashid. With 92% of the vote counted, Foster had 77% of the votes compared to 23% for Rashid, according to unofficial numbers.

In the GOP primary in the district, according to unofficial numbers with 95% of the vote counted, Jerry Evans received 50.8% of the vote, Susan Hathaway-Altman got 37% and Kent Mercado got 12.2% of the vote.

In U.S. House District 14, there was a contested primary on the Republican side, while incumbent Lauren Underwood was unopposed on the Democratic ballot.

For the GOP, with 98% of the vote counted, James Marter received 79.1% of the vote in the primary election, with Charlie Kim getting 20.9%, according to unofficial numbers.

There were a couple of contested primaries in the Fox Valley on Tuesday concerning seats in the General Assembly.

In the Republican primary in the 49th Illinois House District, with 91% of the vote counted, Hannah Billingsley had 74.1% of the vote with Aris Garcia at 25.9%, according to unofficial numbers.

Incumbent Maura Hirschauer was unopposed in the Democratic primary in the district.

In the Democratic primary in the 83rd Illinois House District, with 98% of the vote counted, incumbent Matt Hanson had 67.9% of the vote, compared to Arad Boxenbaum, who received 32.1%, unofficial numbers show.

No candidate ran in the Republican primary in the 83rd District.
