The Aurora City Council will vote Tuesday on a new sign for City Hall downtown.
Aldermen will vote on spending $121,825 with the Aurora Sign Company, of Warrenville, for a four-sided projecting sign city staff says will increase visibility and capabilities over the current sign.
The new sign would be lit and have LED screens that can “get more information to the public,” according to Guadalupe Gonzalez III, Facilities Maintenance superintendent for the city.
The sign would face in four directions, so could be seen from every angle downtown, approaching City Hall.
The Aurora Sign Company has performed multiple projects for the city, most recently the new signs for the Stolp Island Theatre downtown.
The four-sided projection sign is made by the Watchfire Sign Co., and Aurora Sign is a dealer for them.
Watchfire currently holds a contract through the Equalis Group that is authorized to conduct public sector procurement processes, award and enter into agreements with winning suppliers under applicable procurement guidelines, according to a memo on the sign purchase from Gonzalez.
Gonzalez told aldermen because of the company’s connection to the cooperative, and because it has done work on other signs in the city, city staff consulted with Aurora Sign on what would be best for City Hall.
It also would fit the city’s current operating system, Gonzalez said.
