Aurora’s DMV facility at 339 E. Indian Trail officially closed its doors at noon on Friday, but a new location is set to open at 2 p.m. on Monday, the city of Aurora announced on Facebook Thursday.
A new location, which will be at 970 N. Lake St., Suite B, is being called a “DMV+” facility, according to the city’s Facebook post.
The new DMV+ will be twice the size of Aurora’s previous facility, which “often experienced long lines and wait times because of its small size,” a news release from the Office of the Secretary of State said.
“With the larger footprint, the new DMV+ also offers new technology, more customer stations, cross-trained employees and more efficiencies,” the release said.
The new facility will also feature services “that have never been accessible at a traditional Illinois DMV location,” including things that would ordinarily require an in-person visit to a Secretary of State office located in downtown Chicago or Springfield, according to the release.
Specialized services will be available from the office’s Business, Index, Administrative Hearings and Personnel departments, Office of the Secretary of State staff said in the release.
More information about the DMV+ should be available at a press conference scheduled for Monday morning.
Aurora’s DMV+ will be the state’s fourth, according to an Office of the Secretary of State spokesperson. The other locations are in Lake Zurich, Melrose Park and Chicago, the spokesperson said.
