A fire on the West Side of Aurora last Wednesday left a home uninhabitable and a firefighter with a minor hand injury, officials said.
The fire in the 900 block of Deerpath Road was reported by a 911 caller at around 5:30 p.m., according to a news release from the Aurora Fire Department. Officials said in the release that all occupants of the house escaped the home before firefighters arrived.
The first responding firefighters reported heavy smoke and fire coming from the rear of the two-story house, officials said.
Crews brought the fire under control within 40 minutes, but remained on the scene for a couple of hours searching for hidden fire or other hot spots, the release said.
One firefighter suffered a minor hand injury during the fire and was treated at a local hospital, according to officials.
Of the six residents of the house, only two were home at the time of the fire, according to the release.
Officials said that, due to the heavy fire damage and extensive overhaul operations, the house was deemed uninhabitable. The residents were said to be staying with family.
This fire remains under investigation by the Aurora Fire Department’s Fire Investigations Team, fire department officials said.
