Aurora firefighters saved a horse during a barn fire in Aurora on Friday, but eight goats died in the blaze, according to a news release from the Aurora Fire Department.
At around 6:50 a.m. on Feb. 14, the Aurora Fire Department responded to a fire at a pole barn structure on the 1600 block of Sheffer Road, according to the release.
According to officials, large amounts of hay and tires stored in the barn meant “extensive overhaul operations” were needed to fully extinguish the fire.
Firefighters at the scene encountered a horse from the barn suffering from smoke inhalation, the news release said. Medics provided emergency oxygen, and the horse stood up and walked out of the barn on its own, according to officials.
Despite efforts to save them, eight goats in the barn died in the fire, the release said.
No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported, according to the release, but the barn was deemed uninhabitable.
The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Aurora Fire Department, the release stated.
