Aurora is set to establish the Asian-American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Advisory Board.
The board would take its place among a number of advisory boards the city has for cultural communities within the city.
The board would be created to encourage education and preservation of Asian-American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander culture and history.
It also would seek to empower the community, and serve as a bridge to other cultural communities in the city, officials said.
The 13-member board would organize or promote events recognizing Asian-American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander heritage; help promote a greater awareness and ongoing cross-cultural understanding; encourage or help provide opportunities for Asian-American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander residents and businesses; and help raise funds and promote scholarships to financially assist Asian-American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander college-bound high school seniors.
Aldermen are expected to vote to create the board at Tuesday’s City Council meeting.
