Aurora will hold an open house on the Farnsworth Avenue project between 4 and 6 p.m. Thursday in the community room at the Aurora Police Department, 1200 E. Indian Trail.
The event will be a chance for people to offer feedback on the proposed plans for Farnsworth Avenue, between Sheffer Road and Interstate 88. People will also have a chance to ask questions of city staff, such as Public Works Director Ken Schroth, Assistant Public Works Director Jason Bauer and Engineering Coordinator Tim Weidner.
The city has federal funding to replace deteriorated traffic signal equipment, add lanes at intersections and connect a multi-use path along Farnsworth.
The replacement of the traffic signal equipment would include high-visibility backplates and flashing yellow arrows at the six signalized intersections within the project area.
The multi-use trail will connect from Indian Trail to the Illinois Prairie Path, which crosses Farnsworth east of Indian Trail. Additional bicycle accommodations are proposed to connect the multi-use path from I-88 to the Molitor Road intersection.
Other improvements along Farnsworth include ADA accessibility improvements, spot sidewalk repairs, intersection corner radius improvements, new intersection lanes at Molitor Road, and pavement patching.
The project is currently near the end of the first phase, which is preliminary engineering, and the city anticipates getting the first phase design approval in early 2025.
Phase two will follow and is anticipated to be completed by 2026 with construction anticipated in 2027.
