The Barrington School District 220 Board of Education recognized nine student musicians who were named All-State by the Illinois Music Education Association, congratulating the teen singers and instrument players for their talent and the statewide distinction.
Ahead of calling the Barrington High School students up individually at the Feb. 6 board meeting, Bridgid Tileston, BHS director of fine, visual and performing arts, praised the students for the honor, and their ethic and dedication to music.
The students, “I feel, really embody our district’s vision statement, which is ‘empowering personal excellence in every learner.’ These students “do that every day … through hard work and dedication to the arts,” Tileston said.
To get the esteemed distinction, “students are vetted through a rigorous audition process at the district and state level,” school district officials explained.
The student musicians honored were: Daniel Devadas, All-State Band (saxophone); Alexander Garcia, All-State Choir (bass); Ethan Kim, All-State Band (clarinet); Daniel McCoppin, All-State Choir (baritone); Vanessa Njam, All-State Orchestra (violin); Chrissie Rollinson, All-State Choir (soprano); Brian Rudnicki, Future Music Educator Seminar; Grayson Seitz, All-State Choir (tenor); and Adrian Wu, All-State Orchestra (violin)
Adrian Wu spoke after all the students had been called to the front of the meeting room and presented with red gift bags.
He expressed gratitude to teachers and others who helped the students “feel very comfortable with the all-state process, as well as every day in the fine arts wing [at the school].
“As musicians, we spend a lot of time in the fine arts wing, so it ‘s very awesome to feel comfortable there,” he said.
