Below zero temperatures attack commuters Thursday morning, snow possible later

Below zero windchills smacked commuters Thursday morning as weather officials said temperatures would feel between 10 to 20 degrees below freezing throughout the morning.

Officials said there is a limited excessive cold risk Thursday morning for portions of north central and northeast Illinois, and northwest Indiana.

Current morning temperatures at O’Hare International Airport is mostly cloudy at 5 degrees with a windchill of negative 15 degrees. At Midway Airport conditions are the same at 6 degrees with a windchill of negative 14 degrees, officials said.

Officials also said a coating of snow was expected Thursday afternoon near US Highway 24 and warned driving conditions may be slippery in that area.
