National Weather Services officials warned of bone chilling temperatures expected to keep Chicago in a frigid hold Wednesday.
Current morning temps at O’Hare International Airport registered at 12 degrees with a windchill of negative 11 degrees. Farther south at Midway Airport temperatures are the same.
Officials gave a hazardous weather outlook for portions of north central and northeast Illinois and northwest Indiana saying there is an excessive cold risk. Officials warned that windchills cold be as low as 10 below throughout Wednesday morning.
Officials also said the low windchills are expected to stick around until Thursday when snow was expected. Temperatures are expected to rise to the low 30s.
Wednesday night there is a 40 percent chance of snow showers and a 20 percent chance of the same Thursday morning, officials said.
Friday, temperatures are expected to reach into the mid 30s when conditions are expected to be sunny and clear, officials said. But later in the day Friday, there was a chance for rain that may transition into snow, and temperatures may fall back to the high 20s dipping to the low teens Saturday night, then back to frigid Sunday when the highs are expected to be in low teens.
The bright spot in the forecast is sunny conditions are expected on Sunday.
