Wagering with either sportsbook
Kansas Jayhawks (-192) vs. Kansas State Wildcats (+160)
These two come into this rivalry matchup on different ends of the spectrum.
The Wildcats have dropped four straight games (and five out of the last six) and are now 4-5 in Big 12 games, dragging in the bottom third of the conference.
They’ll host state rivals the Kansas Jayhawks who have won two in a row and a second in the conference behind Houston, a team the Jayhawks just beat by 13 on Saturday.
The ‘Hawks put on a clinic against the Houston, shooting just under 70 percent from the field and just over 46 percent from three. With percentages that high, there’s a strong likelihood of a let down on Monday night. Despite the great showing against a solid Houston team, the Kansas offense is rather enigmatic. They rank first in the country in assists per field goal made but sit at 255th in three-point rate and rim shot rate, according to ShotQuality.
Thus, the team is distributing well but not necessarily making good shot choices. Some of that is likely a reflection of the recent hot streaks, as teams naturally start to push the limits of acceptable shot choice when things are falling. That said, it bodes poorly for the eventual Jayhawks shooting cool-down.
Kansas State’s key to victory is on the defensive end. The offense doesn’t shoot especially well from deep and have generally played a slower pace, which can be beneficial against a high-octane offense coming off a big victory like Kansas.
They’ll need to defend the paint well on defense and limit the turnovers on offense to have a chance. It’s not clear if David N’Guessan will play yet, but if so that’s a big nod in the Wildcats’ favor.
The Wildcats also have home-court advantage here which can be a big factor in rivalry games like this.
Overall, the Jayhawks are 4.5 point favorites with a 145 point total, with your best bet here is on the under. Kansas will have a slight offense slide from the previous showing which, in conjunction with the K-State defense, will keep this one tight. Bet the under.
