One person was killed and another seriously injured Friday after a vehicle driving down Western Avenue in Blue Island passed through a guardrail and flipped down an embankment.
The vehicle, traveling north, hit the guardrail at a curve in the road near 13100 Western Ave and struck a tree, police say. Blue Island police responded near 2300 Vermont Street at about 10:30 p.m, and passenger Stephanie Heil, 41, of Bolingbrook, was pronounced dead.
Police have not released the name of the driver of the vehicle, who is in the surgical trauma intensive care unit at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.
