The man found dead inside a burning Fox Lake home Thursday had committed suicide, the Lake County Coroner’s Office said Friday.
The man, 56, was found in the basement of a residence in the 200 block of Lippincott Lane at around 7:40 a.m., according to the coroner’s office and the Fox Lake Fire Protection District.
Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Ted Damos said Friday that smoke was showing from the single-family, one-story residence when firefighters arrived. They entered the residence and discovered the man’s body, Damos said. The man was brought outside to paramedics, who pronounced him dead.
Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control fairly quickly, Damos said. Fox Lake firefighters, who remained on scene for about four hours, were assisted by five other departments.
The incident and cause of the fire remain under investigation by police and fire investigators.
