A man’s body was pulled from a Lake Zurich home that exploded and erupted in fire Tuesday night, according to a Lake County sheriff’s department news release.
At around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Lake County sheriff’s deputies, the Lake Zurich Rural Fire Protection District and other fire departments responded to a report of an explosion in the 23500 block of North Overhill Road in unincorporated Lake Zurich, according to the release.
“When responding units arrived, they found a home completely leveled,” authorities stated in the release.
Immediately following the explosion, according to authorities, the owner of the home, a 77-year-old man, was not accounted for. His body was later recovered from the charred rubble.
The man recovered has not been identified by name. The Lake County Coroner’s Office is expected to do an autopsy.
By Wednesday morning, no cause for the fire had been provided. Authorities said an investigation into the deadly blaze continues.
The cause of the explosion remains under investigation by Lake County Sheriff’s Office Fire Investigators, Lake Zurich Rural Fire Protection District, and Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal.
