A boil order for drinking and cooking water impacting thousands on Chicago’s South Side was lifted Thursday morning, according to the city’s Office of Emergency Management and Communications.
The Chicago Department of Water Management issued the order “out of an abundance of caution” following a leak in a high-pressure water main at the more than a century-old Roseland Pumping Station Tuesday night. It led to outages in parts of Beverly, Morgan Park and Auburn Gresham neighborhoods, although the water main was “back online and fully pressurized” by 11 p.m. Tuesday, officials said.
Buildings and homes located east of Sacramento Avenue, north of 119th Street, west of I-57, south of 87th Street and southwest of Beverly Avenue were under a boil order Wednesday to ensure the water wasn’t contaminated, with dozens lining up for free bottled water at Ridge Park.
