With one Leyden High School District 212 assistant superintendent set to leave the district to take the helm of a nearby one, officials announced new staffing changes, including in human resources.
Tatiana Bonuma had been the SD212 assistant superintendent of human resources but is departing the district to be superintendent of Maine Township High School District in Park Ridge. Brian Mahoney, assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction, will replace Bonuma, according to a district news release.
Mahoney has been with Leyden since 2020 and has also served as the assistant superintendent of student services.
He steps into the new role July 1, according to the release.
“Brian is a proven leader and has built amazing relationships here at Leyden,” Superintendent Nick Polyak stated in the release. “I am excited to see him take on this new challenge and to continue the great work that has been done by Tatiana.”
Before arriving at District 212, which is made up of West Leyden and East Leyden high schools, Mahoney was the special education division chair at Lyons Township High School – which has campuses in west suburban La Grange and Western Springs. He has also held titles as assistant principal, director of pupil personnel and special services, and special education teacher, according to the release.
The release explains that Mahoney earned his bachelor’s degree from Illinois State University, a master’s degree from Governors State University and his doctorate from Loyola University Chicago.
“I’m honored and humbled to succeed Dr. Bonuma, who is such a long-standing, strong leader at Leyden, and I am grateful to have the remainder of the school year to work with her on transitioning and providing a continuation of what she has accomplished in her time here,” Mahoney stated in the release. “I have a lot to learn and I am confident that my experience in special education, student services and curriculum and instruction will meaningfully contribute in a role that requires that vast perspective.”
