Boy, 16, charged with reckless homicide in crash killing 6-month-old

A 16-year-old boy was charged with reckless homicide with a motor vehicle in connection to an April 2023 crash that killed a 6-month-old boy and seriously injured his mother, Chicago police said.

The teenage boy who was charged as a juvenile, was arrested Thursday in the 5100 block of South Wentworth Avenue by the police and U.S. Marshal Fugitive Task Force after he was identified as the driver in a fatal April 16, 2023, accident on the West Side, police said.

The teenage boy was accused of driving a stolen vehicle in the 4400 block of West Washington Boulevard at a high rate of speed, and blowing a traffic light crashing into another vehicle. A 6-month-old baby was pronounced dead in the crash and the baby’s mother was seriously injured, police said.

The teen also was charged as a juvenile with one count of aggravated reckless driving causing bodily harm and one count of possessing a stolen vehicle.
