Boy, 3, hit by stray bullet during armed robbery attempt in Little Italy, police say

A 3-year-old boy was hit by a stray bullet during an armed robbery attempt Saturday afternoon in the Little Italy neighborhood on the Near West Side, according to Chicago police. 

A 20-year-old man was in a parking lot in the 1000 block of West 14th Street around 4:50 p.m. when an unknown gunman pulled out a firearm and demanded his property, police said. The gunman fired shots into the air, striking the boy, who was inside a nearby apartment. 

The boy was taken to Stroger Hospital in fair condition with a gunshot wound to his ear, police said. The 20-year-old man wasn’t injured. 

Police said no suspects are in custody and that they were investigating.
