Boy, 5, dies after being hit by car in driveway of his St. Charles home

A 5-year-old boy has been pronounced dead after being hit by a car in the driveway of his home in St. Charles on Tuesday, according to a news release Wednesday from the St. Charles Police Department.

At around 5:09 p.m. Tuesday, the St. Charles police and fire departments were dispatched to the 4000 block of Royal Fox Drive in St. Charles, where a 5-year-old child had been struck by a car, the release said.

The incident occurred in the driveway of the child’s own home, according to a spokesperson for the St. Charles police. The driver of the car was identified as an immediate family member, who has cooperated with the investigation, according to the release.

When they arrived, police officers found a neighbor performing CPR on the child and took over, the release said, and the child was taken to Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital in Geneva, where he was pronounced dead.

The St. Charles Police Department is not releasing the identity of those involved in the incident nor the relationship of the driver to the child, the police spokesperson confirmed on Wednesday.

The police department is investigating the crash along with the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team.
