Robert Crimo III appeared briefly in court Wednesday as his case continues toward trial on charges that he killed seven people at Highland Park’s 2022 Independence Day parade.
The case-management conference lasted less than five minutes, but the judge signaled that more substantive hearings were on the horizon.
Assistant State’s Attorney Ben Dillon told Judge Victoria Rossetti that Lake County prosecutors intend to file several more pretrial motions, in addition to ones that were filed last year. The judge set an Aug. 28 return date, and said she expected to set hearing dates for the pretrial motions at that time.
Crimo has a February 2025 trial scheduled on first-degree murder charges, and dozens of other counts, for allegedly firing on the crowd at the July 4, 2022, parade in downtown Highland Park, killing seven and injuring dozens of others.
He is being held in jail as he awaits trial.
