Building checked for structural damage overnight after sedan strikes a pillar on Michigan Avenue

Chicago firefighters cleared a building for structural damage overnight after a sedan blew a red light and hit another vehicle that veered into a pillar for a building on Michigan Avenue, Chicago police said.

Shortly before 1:20 a.m. Thursday, a black sedan headed west blew a red light and struck a silver sedan headed north in the 100 block of North Michigan Avenue, police said. The silver sedan struck a light pole, then a pillar for a building.

The driver of the silver sedan was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital with minor injuries and listed in good condition, police said.

Traffic citations were issued, and police were investigating.
