Urban of League of NWI starts entrepreneurs program

The Urban League of Northwest Indiana (ULNWI) recently started a new program for entrepreneurs and aspiring business owners, according to a release. The program, which is free to participants, was developed after a series of entrepreneurs reached out to the Urban League for advice, resources and guidance to start or grow their businesses.

The program will take place for 12 weeks on Saturdays and include classroom instruction coupled with “lunch and learn” sessions led by experts in various fields. Currently, the program is being funded by a series of financial institutions and organizations who are donating funds and resources, the release said.

VU MBA program honored in national magazine listing

The Master of Business Administration program at Valparaiso University has been recognized on Money’s list of 2024 Best Grad School Programs and the U.S. News and World Report list of Best Online MBA programs, ranking 74 out of 344 participants.

Money’s 2024 Best Grad School Program gives the Valparaiso University MBA program a score of 4.5/5 stars, citing the program’s extremely high placement rate and the average early career salary of $64,840 for its graduates, the release said. The Valpo MBA program offers a variety of
starting times for its seven-week courses, allowing for students to earn their degrees in as little as one year, the release said.

In addition to its rankings for quality and value, the Valparaiso University MBA program has been recognized by the Princeton Review as a top-five Green MBA for its dedication to sustainability and responsibility, the release said.

PNW online program ranked among top 50: magazine

Purdue University Northwest’s (PNW) online bachelor’s and master’s nursing programs offered through its College of Nursing were recognized in U.S. News and World Report’s 2024 annual Best Online Program rankings, according to a release.

Among best online bachelor’s programs, PNW’s RN-to-BSN program ranked No. 47, the release said. The program offers busy nursing professionals an accelerated and convenient degree option to earn additional skills and credentials to advance their careers.

The College of Nursing’s online Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) continued to move up the rankings among Best Online Master’s in Nursing programs, the release said. PNW’s online PNW’s College of Nursing is recognized as a Center of Excellence in Nursing Education by the

Duneland Y begins construction planning for new project

The Duneland Family YMCA has started the construction planning phase for the Healthy Living Campus project in Chesterton and the Y’s capital campaign to fund the new facility has started, according to a release.

The capital campaign has seen the board pledge more than $500,000 to the project, the release said. This announcement comes one month after the Duneland Family YMCA announced the historic contribution from the Dunbar Family Foundation, which will enable the construction of an

Engineering professor earns national recognition

An associate professor of electrical and computer engineering at Valparaiso University has been named the recipient of the Michael V. Carano Teacher Excellence Award from the IPC Education Foundation.

The annual, student-nominated award comes with a $1,000 cash prize and a one-year membership to IPC Edge, the institution’s online learning platform.

In addition to teaching, award winner Dan White operates the University’s Wireless Research and Electronic Discovery (!WIRED) Lab, which serves as a space for students to receive hands-on project experience in radio, satellite, microchip and other engineering projects. He is also a founding member of Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) education committee and a core contributor to the Libre Space Foundation.
