Calumet City man, 72, found dead in Munster after he was reported missing

The body of a Calumet City man who had been missing for more than two weeks was found Monday near railroad tracks in a Munster industrial park.

Chester Palusiak, 72, was pronounced dead at 406 Superior Avenue around 7:10 p.m. The industrial park houses Three Floyds Brewery and Franciscan Health Munster.

Munster Police Chief Steve Scheckel said Palusiak, who suffered from dementia, was reported missing a few weeks ago. According to the Lake County Coroner’s release, he was last seen on Feb. 13 at his home in Calumet City.

Scheckel said three young men riding bikes contacted police after finding Palusiak’s body between a swale area and the CSX railroad tracks.

The coroner’s office hasn’t released a cause or manner of death, but they did say there was no foul play or trauma. Investigators are also awaiting the results of a toxicology report.
