Carjackers forced a woman and a 1-year-old boy out of a car Monday morning in East Garfield Park and fled in the vehicle with a 6-year-old boy still inside, Chicago police said.
The carjackers approached the woman near the 2700 block of West Lexington Street around 4:20 a.m. and indicated that they had a firearm, police said. After forcing the woman and the 1-year old out of the car, the carjackers drove off while the 6-year-old was still in the vehicle.
The carjackers eventually placed the 6-year-old out of the vehicle where he was recovered a short distance away, police said. Neither the woman nor the children were injured.
The carjackers eventually crashed the vehicle on the expressway. Illinois State Police were called to investigate the crash at Interstate 290 eastbound at Interstate 90 northbound around 4:31 a.m.
No injuries were reported in the crash and one suspect was taken into custody, Chicago police said.
