A man who died recently in a fiery vehicle collision in Barrington Hills has been identified as a 30-year-old from Carpentersville.
On Tuesday, the Lake County Coroner’s Office identified the man as Josue Campuzano-Cuin and stated his death was a result of injuries suffered from during a fire that happened Feb. 28 after two vehicles collided.
According to a Barrington Hills Police Department news release, emergency responders from the police department and the Barrington-Countryside Fire Protection District responded around 8:50 p.m. that Wednesday to a call of a vehicle crash with injuries at County Line Road and Bellwood Drive.
“Officers arrived on scene and found a two-vehicle crash with a fire that spread to the passenger compartment of one of the vehicles,” the release states.
One motorist, now identified as Campuzano-Cuin, was driving eastbound in a Ford pickup truck when he struck a westbound Hyundai Palisade head-on, authorities explained in the release.
Campuzano-Cuin was pronounced dead at the scene. The other driver, a 46-year-old Algonquin woman, was taken to an area hospital in serious condition, police said after the collision.
It was not immediately clear Tuesday the updated condition of the woman, including whether she has been released from the hospital.
“Based on the seriousness of the crash, the Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) of Lake County was requested to conduct the crash investigation,” authorities stated in the release.
The incident remains under investigation by the Barrington Hills Police Department and MCAT, according to authorities.
