Chicago woman gets probation for lending car to get rid of gun after fatal shooting
A Chicago woman got two years probation Wednesday for lending her car for her then-boyfriend to get rid of the gun after he killed a man outside a Hammond smoke shop. Mychael Thomas, 30, pleaded guilty to assisting a criminal, a level 6 felony. She can later petition and get it knocked down to a misdemeanor. East Chicago man gets trial date in 16-year-old’s Gary murder after case reassigned from jailed former detective
A judge set an initial trial date Thursday for an East Chicago man charged in connection with a 16-year-old’s death during a 2017 drug deal in Gary’s Miller section. Lawyers said they needed more time, because the case was recently reassigned from a former Gary detective now jailed in a federal child porn case. Marcell Ellison, 25, was charged in January 2023 with murder, attempted murder and attempted armed robbery.

Man critically wounded by someone nearby while in an argument in Englewood
A 34-year-old man involved in an argument Thursday night was critically wounded by someone standing nearby in the Englewood neighborhood, Chicago police said. Shortly after 11:15 p.m., the victim was involved in an argument in the 6800 block of South Ashland Avenue when someone nearby pulled out a firearm and opened fire before fleeing the scene, police said. The victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the left side of the torso, and was taken to UChicago Medicine where he was listed in critical condition. No one was in custody and detectives were investigating.
Boy, 15, wounded Halloween night in shooting in Rogers Park
A 15-year-old boy was wounded Thursday night on the North Side in the Rogers Park neighborhood, Chicago police said. About 9:10 p.m., the boy was in the 7500 block of North Damen Avenue when he suffered gunshot wounds to the ankles. He was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston where he was listed in good condition, police said. The boy was unable to provide details about the shooting and no one was in custody. Detectives are investigating.
Officer struck by vehicle while on traffic control overnight in South Shore
An officer responding to a large gathering overnight in the South Shore neighborhood was struck by a vehicle while conducting traffic control, Chicago police said. About 2:15 a.m. Friday, officers responded to a large gathering in the 7500 block of South Phillips Avenue and one officer attempting to conduct traffic control was struck by a white sedan that fled east, police said. The officer was struck to the leg, and was treated by paramedics and released. No one was in custody and detectives were investigating.
Hate crime, terrorism charges added against alleged West Rogers Park shooter
