Illinois state trooper killed in Champaign County vehicle crash

A driver was cited after an Illinois State Police trooper was killed while on-duty in a downstate car crash Friday afternoon.  Corey Thompsen, the 28-year-old trooper, was driving a motorcycle while finishing a traffic enforcement detail just before 3:45 p.m., ISP director Brendan Kelly said in a Saturday statement. Thompson was traveling east on East Leverett Road, approaching 1300 E. in Champaign County.  Helen Torres, 32, of Thomasboro, was driving south in a truck on County Road 1300 E. and stopped at the intersection with Leverett Road, Kelly said. Man’s burned body found in Grand Crossing alley ruled a homicide, medical examiner says

A man’s death was ruled a homicide Saturday a week after he was found in a Grand Crossing alley with severe burns all over his body, according to Chicago police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.   Officers found the man, who hasn’t yet been identified and age is unknown, in an alley in the 6700 block of South Prairie Avenue around 5 p.m. on Oct. 12, police said. Man fatally shot outside Uptown restaurant: medical examiner

A man was fatally shot Friday afternoon outside an Uptown restaurant, police said. Police said the man, who was 45, was sitting in a vehicle in a restaurant parking lot on the 1000 block of West Wilson Avenue around 3:45 p.m. when a pair of men came up to him. One of the approaching men drew a gun and fired, police said. The man was taken in critical condition to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, police said.
