Gary man sentenced to more than 12 years for shooting at letter carrier

A U.S. District Court judge sentenced a Gary man to more than 12 years in prison after he pled guilty to shooting at a letter carrier in 2021. Jerron Donte Williams, 34, was sentenced to 153 months in prison followed by 3 years of probation on Wednesday by United States District Court Senior Judge Jon E. DeGuilio after pleading guilty to assaulting and inflicting bodily injury on a U.S. Postal Service Letter Carrier with a deadly weapon, and discharging a firearm during the assault, according to a release from U.S. Attorney Clifford D. Johnson.

Naperville council nixes affordable housing incentives in favor of catalog for developers

The Naperville City Council voted 5-4 Tuesday night to reject an affordable housing incentives ordinance, which had been years in the making, by instead directing city staff to create an affordable housing catalog highlighting successful affordable housing projects in the city to be supplied to any developer looking to build residential units in town.

Aurora looks to buy Lake Street property to be ‘in control of the destiny’ of its prime downtown location

Aurora officials are looking at purchasing two land parcels on Lake Street, just north of New York Street in the downtown area. City economic development officials told the City Council this week the parcels are in a key area the city has planned for what it calls the Riverfront North District, a mixed-use area made up of “vibrant, eclectic” housing, stores, entertainment venues and restaurants, according to Alex Minella, senior planner in the Mayor’s Office of Economic Development. “Time is of the essence.
