Northbrook to spend nearly $1 million on site for future fire station

Northbrook has agreed to buy a 2-acre residential site for nearly $1 million for use as a fire station and a center providing services to the disabled for $2.3 million for its future maintenance garage. The Village Board voted unanimously on Sept. 24 to approve the purchase of 3504 Commercial Ave., an industrial space owned by Glenkirk disabled services, and of 820 Dundee Road, a home owned by Carmelita Carriaga. New Trier High School 1954 alums become first class to hold a 70th reunion; average age is 88, class president says

New Trier East High School welcomed back alumni from the class of 1954 for their 70th anniversary on Saturday, according to Class President Bernard Rinella. Rinella said the class is the longest in the school’s history to keep celebrating in reunions as the alumni head into their 90s. According to Rinella, East High School Principal Denise Dubravec gave the class a tour of the school. Two victims are in critical condition after being shot overnight in separate shootings on the Southwest and Far South Sides, Chicago police said. Thw latest shooting happened about 4:30 a.m. Tuesday in the 5800 block of South Kedzie Avenue in the Gage Park neighborhood. Victim found fatally wounded overnight in Auburn Park neighborhood on South Side

Chicago police said a male victim was fatally shot early Tuesday morning on the South Side in the Auburn Park neighborhood. Shortly before 3:30 a.m. Tuesday, an unidentified male was approached by someone who opened fire in his direction in the 7800 block of South Ashland Avenue. The victim was taken with a gunshot wound to the torso to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where he was pronounced dead. No one was in custody and detectives were investigating.
