Girl, 2, hurt in Chicago Lawn shooting, police say
A 2-year-old girl was injured in a Saturday night shooting in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood, according to Chicago police. An unknown gunman shot the girl inside a home in the 2500 block of West 61st Street around 7 p.m., police said. She was transported to Comer Children’s Hospital in good condition with a gunshot wound to her right leg. Police said a firearm was recovered at the scene, and detectives are investigating. rjohnson@chicagotribune.com
Judge orders teen detained in July slaying of 15-year-old boy in Grand Crossing
A 17-year-old boy accused of fatally shooting 15-year-old Phillip Mitchell in the Grand Crossing neighborhood was ordered detained Saturday. Multiple witnesses and school employees identified the teen, Latoby Baines, as the person shown in surveillance footage firing a gun that killed Mitchell near the street in the 7100 block of South King Drive on July 10, authorities told a Cook County judge during a detention hearing at the Leighton Criminal Court Building. Woman found fatally wounded outside in South Chicago
An unidentified woman was discovered fatally wounded outside Saturday morning on the Far South Side in the South Chicago area, Chicago police said. Shortly after 9:30 a.m., the woman was found outside with gunshot wounds to the body in the 9500 block of South Avenue N where she was pronounced dead. No one was in custody and detectives were investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting.
Police shoot suspect in armed confrontation after a chase from Plano to Aurora
Law enforcement officers shot an armed suspect on Friday night in Aurora after pursuing them from Plano, according to the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office. Illinois State Police is currently investigating the use of force in this incident, a department spokesperson said Saturday.
